Does a high school have access to the login information to the students on its' facebook network?
-
I was told by a teacher recently that the school can legally log in to anyones facebook profile and read all their messages via some superuser account. Is there a shred of truth to this?

Answer:
This is a lie, and any attempt to do so will violate the end user license agreement (EULA) on facebook and is punishable by civil lawsuit... it is possible however that your school could obtain your password if you log in using one of the schools computers.... also make sure your privacy settings on facebook are set so that no one can read your messages unless they are friends, and be certain that your friends list doesn't contain anyone who might tell your teacher what you post.

this is a grey area... i believe it is totally doable (legally) for high schools to obtain such information, since your registration is tied to a school email. after all, privacy is not what facebook advertises for. however, i haven't heard of such occurrences. why are you so worried though?
That teacher is misinformed, or just trying to scare you ;) Networks don't have any "control" over members, your login information is on the facebook network, thats all, there is no transfer of account information such as passwords to the various networks you join.
