If wikipedia starts advertising today can it cross facebook in worth ?

Answer:
Facebook has a much stronger case for targeting ads and this leads to more value for advertisers. FB just knows so much about their customers that they can pinpoint likes etc to push out more bang for the buck. Wikipedia has the advantage like google in that someone has just searched for that specific topic and therefore may be in the buying mode, but facebook is able to refine the ads and can help advertisers pinpoint campaigns in a way that will outscale anything that Wikipedia might want to do. Also, you may have noticed that facebook users can X out ads they don't like and facebook will ask why e.g. was it offensive, are you just not interested in this, etc. that is further building intelligence in their ad delivery system and targeting for companies bringing money to the table.

Depends - I think that wikipedia has more visitors than facebook, but because of the fact that facebook requires registration and stuff like that, they can offer more personalized advertisements, making them appear in your own language, and so that they appeal to your age (you wouldn't find an advertisement for women clothes, if you're a man). Wikipedia wouldn't be able to do this, so I think that facebook would make more. But of course it depends - if wikipedia required you to make a survey to enter the website, they'd make quite a lot more, I think.
I would say they need to start checking the posts and filtering them. I absolutely hate wikipedia. I haven't found a correct response to what I have been looking for in.. oh.. I don't know.. 10 years maybe.. People just totally bs on there, and it ends up being totally ridiculous. I'll give you an example: I asked if people that are born in Puerto Rico are subject to the same US immigration proceedings as people from other countries who want to go to the US. The answer I got from there was "yes" lol.. now that was a loaded search on my part.. knowing full well that Puerto Ricans are by birth, US citizens.. so. the correct answer would be "no" as they are already US citizens, US passport holders.. LOL.. I don't know who put that on there, but they are complete idiots.. and that is only one of many that I have used to test the site.. It sucks!! Now I know why my professors steered us away from there as a "legitimate" source of information.
Both are entirely different areas hence cannot be compared.
