Im thinking it has to do with them switching over to the timeline soon.

Yep. All the servers are currently down.
I am having the same problem on my droid phone. It stays at a white screen.
They are updating the site so all users will have to use the Timeline profile view. Servers are down and it is slow as a result.
I'm in. They are doing major site maintenance and have just reported that everyone may be switched to time line view quite earlier than originaly anticipated.
