When you become friends with someone, it shows up on everyones live feed, how do you turn that off,facebook?

On facebook, i want to be able to add friends and not have it show up on everyones newsfeed

friend them, then when it says "*your name* and *friend's name* have become friends" put the cursor to the right of that and it will show an X. click the X and delete the post.
