Where is inbox on Facebook?

Facebook - removed an ex, i msgd her inbox and history of all the msgs we sent, showed?

i removed my ex of my facebook around a year ago. ive still kept the msgs she sent me when we were together. recently i upgraded my facebook to the new version, which also enables chat msgs to appear on my inbox. i recentley msgd my ex's inbox, and all the history of the facebook inbox msgs from before when we were together showed up. is this because ive kept the old msgs they showed up and havent deleted them? or facebook keeps private msgs regardless if you have deleted inbox msgs u use to send someone even if their not on your friends list anymore?
