How do I get started on facebook?

I have next to no friends and I hear facebook can be the easiest way to get started (especially to meet people like me, with same interests). I don't know many people IRL so I can't just friend them and friend their friends and all that so I need a way to get started. Nowadays I just work but people I work with are much much older than I am (I'm 19) and I don't start college until this fall so I need something in the mean time. So since I pretty much don't have any friends I have to spend most of my free time at home because I feel like an even bigger loser by doing things out alone than being stuck in here and I wanna change that, do things I missed out on in high school. The thing is that my life is not exciting at all so what will I put there? I can show my interests and all that and maybe a picture or two but besides that I cant think of anything to put on the "wall"

I would just say log in to Facebook, and then look up a random name, then change the 'Filter' at the top, put in your city, state, and all that then take out the name and click search. It'll come up with a lot of people who are living in the same town. Look at them, and see if they fit what your personality is and what not, and add them. Then add their friends, and that's how to get started!
