While some of the other answers provide proxy resources, you're still circumventing the intent of the school. This will undoubtedly put you in violation of the usage policy and potentially get you in trouble. Frankly, a user tunneling through a proxy is going to raise suspicion. You seem like a reasonable person by your admission that blocking FaceBook is "fair enough". I would suggest that you talk to a teacher about HotMail and explain that it is how you send your homework and ask them what they suggest. Perhaps they can get the IT folks to back off of HotMail or the IT folks can suggest an alternative that will work. Generally faculty have greater say than IT (trust me - I'm in education and work in IT at the moment). You'll find that in this case - and most times in life - that working with people will provide better results than trying to circumvent them.
