How come on facebook i sent a friend request thats not accepted, but i can see their updates?

I sent a friend request 2 weeks ago but still it shows friend request sent only .But in my news feed, i still can her status updates and profile pic changed and new friends added.... i just can't comment or "like" them..? I have people that try to friend request me, who i click "ignore". I don't want these people that try to request me to see all my status' updates and friends! Thats why i "ignored" them!
