What does the grey half moon next to a name on facebook chat mean?

On Facebook chat, what does it mean when there's no green dot next to the person's picture?

  • As the title says. I noticed that some of my friends on the Facebook chat sidebar have nothing next to their name (no green dot, or half-moon, etc...) What does that mean? Are they online? Or are they not?

    They're not online or they went off of chat. I think, now I only THINK that they're still on your sidebar because you talk to them most often. That's just how I see the pattern, or I don't have enough friends to not talk to them often </3 Because, whether they're online or not, you can still message them or post on their wall. They just won't get it straightaway.

the green dot means they are online. the half moon means they are signed in but haven't done anything in a while ( idle ) and nothing means they are off line.

They're not online. edit: I'm pretty sure the ones on the sidebar are just the people you interact with most on Facebook.

it means there not on line but don't let that deture you for writing them a message cause even if there not online it will still send your message to there inbox where they will receive it once there online Again
