Should I get Facebook?

  • Hi. I'm in high school and over 90% of my year group has Facebook. I don't. Firstly, my parents don't really want me to get it. My dad is worried about privacy and my mum is just thinking about whether or not you can delete it afterwards. Sometimes I do feel a tiny bit cut off by not having Facebook but there are still all these complicated issues that maybe I am better off not tangling myself into. The teacher made a girl open her account in front of her because of something she wrote and they're always giving us warnings on not taking photos in school uniform etc. So I figured I'd be better staying out of it. Also, I've heard reports that Facebook is distracting to study and even having it on in the background can lower your grades. I came dux of my year and I am worried that if I get Facebook, I would be too tempted to just talk to my friends all night and not do homework. But I do get asked a lot at family friend gatherings and such social events whether I have Facebook and I feel as though I am rejecting possible friendships by not having it. I'm also going to a debating camp soon and some of my friends say they've made friends from that with people from other schools by connecting on Facebook. What do you think?

    i think you should and im pretty sure teachers cant make a student open up something that they wrote at home.

Listen buddy, people use facebook like something they need to live. Is not a past time or hobbie, facebook has become an addiction. I know a lot people that have gotten in trouble because of facebook information. Be aware, that such informatin can be viewed by anybody. It doesn't matter if its private, people find their way. I personally never had facebook, and I live in peace. If friends want to talke to me, they know my house number, they know my cell number, and they know where I live. At the end u r gonna do what u want. The decision is yours. But I recommend listening to your parents. 90% of the time, they are right about things that might sound dumb to us.

I think you should. It's fun having an account on facebook and also helps you communicate easily with friends.

I do recommend that you get one. First off, it's fun to keep in contact with people. My 2 old best friends found me on Facebook and I haven't talked to them in years. I also moved away from my friends and family so Facebook is another way to see what's going on in their lives (pictures) and communicate with. As for the privacy, I have my profile set so only my friends can see my wall, pictures, notes, information, etc. So if you went to my profile, all you'd see is my name and picture. In high school when I first got a FB, I decided to get my hw done right when I got home so then I can go online and not have to worry about getting my work done. I say get one. It's a lot of fun and there may be some games you'll like to play with your friends (like Farmville, Cityville, and Frontierville)

I think you should, you sound mature and responsible but be aware that your opening a door to not only temptation but lots of distraction. You can always delete your account by the way.

I delete myspace for facebook you can setup to where you nobody can see your profile, but you. tell your parants its a good way to keep in touch with friends, family, and people you know i really really recommend getting a facebook.
