Is Windows Messanger and MSN Messanger the same thing?

I got tricked into opening an msn messanger virus, how do I get rid of it?

  • I was chatting with a friend of mine on msn messanger and next thing i know i get a message(thinking it's by him) saying here's the funniest video ever http://2short.net/foto2010-10-05a.jpg. I so totally took it as he was the one sending me this link yet I found out a lil to late that it was only some kind of virus. After I hit that link my messanger automatically locks me out and I have to constantly log off and then log back in. After logging back in, I open up all the windows of all the friends I was chatting with and I see that that same link has been sent to them. I have read similiar question and done the answers provided, but none seem to help. I've ran my antivirus program and nothing has been detected. Has anyone come around this virus. If so can you please help me in getting rid of it. Thank you so much!!

    I would have to recommend Malwarebytes here. Its a great tool for getting rid of such problems. Best of all. Its free!
