Why is my Windows Live Messenger not responding anymore?

Why is Windows live Messenger not responding and freezing?

I have the latest version of windows live messenger and it does not respond for around 30 seconds when i sign in after it is fine. Then it will stop responding for each new conversation window that is opened for roughly 30 seconds. if i click on emoticon or wink etc it will completely freeze. It was working fine last week. I haven't changed anything since. i have repaired and reinstalled but nothings seems to work. I am using Windows 7 ultimate 64bit. I have done virus scans and nothings is wrong. Can anyone help? thanks in advance

mine does that quite a lot but normally i find just restarting the computer works
