Using a webcam for MSN messenger?

Windows live messenger webcam not working properly (AGAIN), help?

I bought a new webcam a few months ago, and it worked fine with MSN Messenger, but suddenly it's not working properly. I've not changed or installed anything new. The issue is that when I begin a video call the box that show's my own webcam has the red X to symbolize no webcam connected, YET the other person viewing me can see me. Also i've done audio/video setup several times and nothing is wrong, it shows my webcam as working fine. I would like to be able to see myself if i'm going to show my webcam so I want to fix this or i'm going to scrub using MSN. I've had issues with it and webcams for years it seems.
