I cant access email from my msn messenger?

when i right click on my msn messenger icon in the system tray (whilst signed in), and then go to email my web-browser takes me to a screen where i have to put my password in again. Before i reinstalled windows on my laptop, this never used to happen - i would just be able to go straight to my inbox. why is this?
