Why wont my webcam work on MSN Messenger?

I have a Dell laptop with a webcam already integrated in it. Whenever I open my MSN Messenger my webcam won't work, it shows as if I don't have a webcam. I checked the tools setting and went on my audio and video setup to make sure everything was right....and it was. But whenever I'm not on Messenger and want to take pictures or make a video on my laptop using its webcam, it works!!!! Why is it when I open MSN Messenger my webcam wont work but for other purposes it will? I checked all the settings on MSN and its all fine, but yet its still not working!!!
