Windows Live Messenger (MSN) help!?

  • On my Windows Live Messenger account, if one of my contacts are offline it displays their names as either their e-mail address, or their full name? However when they sign in it changes to their screen name. If i sign out and sign in again, the contacts that have been online will be displayed by their e-mails again. It really bugs me! I've checked all the settings! Any help?

    This is actually pretty common, but there is an easy solution. First, open up the Windows Live Messenger main window, which displays all your contacts, etc. Next, right click on one of your contacts, with the annoying problem, and scroll down to 'Edit nickname', and click. Once you're there, place a desired nickname to be displayed to you. It will show this nickname if they're online, OR offline. This doesn't change it on their end though, You're only changing how it is displayed on your screen. It doesn't affect them at all. Hope this helps.

Windows Live Messenger will show a Contacts e-mail if no other set name is available. When your contactssign in the set name they set for themselves shows. To fix this, set a name for them by editing their contact card.
