Why can't I download MSN Live Messenger?

Help with msn download, and add or remove programs.?

About a month ago I had what i believe was Msn live messenger 7.5. I had kept getting an error that wouldn't allow me to sign in, so i uninstalled it. After installing and uninstalling different versions, i came to what i though was finally the version i wanted, but when i attempted to download it it gave me an error stating that i should uninstall my old version of Msn, so i went to Start, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, and there was nothing listed as Msn or Windows live messenger, so i clicked on Add/remove windows components, and two things appeared of which i thought might be why i cant download another version, and they were "MSN explorer, and Windows messenger. If i check those two boxes it just installs them over and over again...i cannot find out how to uninstall them. Even if those are what should be uninstalled to allow me for another download of windows live messenger
