How can I change my Youtube Thumbnail?

I made yet another youtube video and I want to change the thumbnail. not the kind where i put a snippet of the picture i want at the end, i want a completely different one. famous youtubers such as smosh and raywilliamjohnson never put their thumbnail in the video yet they get it there. how can i do this? also, they dont change it after they make the video. right when the video is released it is the different kind. thanks
