What are the best settings for uploading to YouTube?

Youtube video goes twice as fast. Audio is just fine. How do you slow down the video speed?

  • First of all, I'm on a Macintosh, so *insert Windows Program* won't work. For making the videos, I use Snapz Pro X, settings: 24 Frames per second Video: h.264 Audio: IMA 4:1, 44.100 kHz, stereo, 16 bit I then use Quicktime for editing it. Very first file generated works fine with audio/video, but some times, once exported, the video plays twice as fast. Here's three examples. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Km2kuQaIV1U Original .mov Movie file. 0:14 seconds, just like it should be. *BUT*, quality stinks for first second and file size is 9.8 megs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DE1umW0kg4g Exported (Movie to MPEG-4, video format-H.264, Data Rate-256,image size and frame rate-Current), quality is as it should be, file size is 737 KB, BUT the video goes twice as fast, making it just 0:06 seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0N4AUZm_wM Exported for web, to a .m4v file, quality is as it should be, file size is 2.9 megs, BUT the video goes twice as fast, making it just 0:06 seconds. Exported for web is what I've always done before uploading. Audio is also converted to AAC when exported. Now, the insane thing about this is that I can post twi different parts of a video on YouTube, and one will be just fine, and the other one will have the video speed issue. How do you export a video...and have it still work on YouTube??

  • Answer:

This is really a question for youtube's support. I can't think of why that would be happening to your videos. And they play fine on your computer? It seems for now, use the format that plays at the right speed or keep trying other output formats until you find one that works. Does that weird first frame appear when you play it locally or only when displayed on youtube? You could try trimming that frame before export. As you can tell, I'm just throwing ideas out here...
