How do I forward or reply to an E-mail?

How do I reply to an email using gmail without creating a "conversation"...i just want to reply to an email!?

  • I recently got gmail. I like Google. I have been sending emails and getting emails back and then when I go to reply, it opens the reply "box" below the email that was sent to me. I type my response in there and then hit send. Once this is sent, I go to my inbox and it now says I have a "conversation" with that person and says my name, their name and the number of times we've got back and forth. I do NOT want this feature. I want to be able to reply to an email and then delete the email from my inbox without creating this conversation. Also, when I do delete the email from my inbox, because it is part of this "conversation" it deletes my response from my "sent" folder. This is very annoying. How do I just reply to a gmail email without creating this conversation which will then allow me to delete emails from my inbox without deletes my replies and will then allow me to ease my frustration levels.

  • Answer:

Gmail will always create a "conversation" and add new emails with the same subject to the same conversation. About the only thing you can do is either compose a new email with a different subject to the same person, or you can reply and then click the "Edit Subject" link, and enter a new subject. (But you will still end up with a new "conversation", but at least it won't be part of an older one). P.S. The conversations thing really annoyed me too for quite a while, but I did end up getting used to it, and now I actually think it's kind of useful.
