How do I put in a different background in my Blogger blog?

How do I put a background on my blog post on blogger?

I'm extremely lost. I'm new to blogger and need to post a blog for an assignment by tomorrow. I want to put a picture as a background but when I pressed the button and put in the URL, it made te picture small and not behind my writing. How can I make it the background? I'm at the page where I typed it out and it says post settings on the side and compose and HTML buttons at the top left. Please help!
