Why can't I download apps on my android phone?

Look...i just got a zte chorus phone... it "said" android....but how the hell do u download apps?

there is no "market" instead it "storeffront"....wtf is that??? all u can get off that is wallpappers and games...i need GPS and i dont even kno how to get it....or if i even can for that matter. when i bought the phone i was informed by everyone including cricket web page that this was an android phone the only android thing i found so far is that when u push the smily button in a txt a android face pops up....i just need to kno if i can get regular apps for this phone or not and if so how...i would greatly appreciate it...and hopefully this phone wont be thrown out a window before i get an answer....lol
