all search engines work on the principle of meta tags... any website hosted will have a meta tag containing some of the most commonly words and phrases used in the website.. for example: the meta tag for youtube.com may contain words like videos, english, MJ, J LO, amazing, downloads, ....etc.... the search engines queries or scan only the meta tabs of those websites contained in its database and compares it with the search phrase as provided by the user....

It's a huge database is the easiest to explain it.
