How much is the average WiFi router?

How to reconfigure Linksys router? (WRT160N) HELP!? WIFI HELP!?

  • I have been trying to set up my wireless router for the past week and i still have no idea why it doesnt work. I did all the basics and i got the router sending signal. my laptop detects it and it says the signal strength is excellent. but i cant go online! i got a page telling me something about DNS. so i contacted Cisco and they said i needed to reconfigured my router and they didnt tell me anything else. I tried connecting the router to my desktop computer (windows XP 32 bit) but the same thing shows up. "DNS failed to look up...." i already tried: 1. Connecting my modem to the router. 2. Connecting my router to the computer (via ethernet). 3. Resting my router. 4. Taking off the password. 5 Made sure i didnt have a router name collision with my neighbors. i am curently running on windows vista using google chrome DSL cable modem (this is the way im getting online right now since wifi is virtually impossible)

Are you able to go to pages by typing their IP address? For instance here's google: http://74.125.224.72/ If you can access google that way, but not by typing in google.com, then you indeed have a DNS issue. DNS is what translates the name of the site (domain name) to an IP address. By default, your computer's and router's internet settings should be set to "Automatically detect DNS settings". And that should work. If those are your settings and it's not working, then see if it works after you manually configure your DNS to the following: 208.67.222.222 Alternate: 208.67.220.220 (Those are the servers for OpenDNS, which is what people in the US should be using anyway instead of auto-configure which uses your ISP's dns servers.) Do that for your computer's internet settings (both lan and wireless), AND for your router's dns settings. Apply changes and then see if you can browse the web.
