How do i set up a wireless internet connection on my laptop?

  • so i just bought a laptop off craigslist it has built in wifi and windows vista.... at my house i already have a desktop with a wireless router but i cant figure out how to set up the wireless internet? i got the laptop to pick up the connection but when i try to use the internet it wont work

a laptop will detect a wireless source, so basically all you have to do to connect to your router, if it is protected by encryption and password. Look for wifi's from you laptop, if you household one has a name connect to it , if protected you need the password, for it to connect and voila? Failing that go into you router menu by typing 192.168.0.1 in your browser, or some are 192.168.1.1 pending on brand of router, and see if router recognises your laptop. In laptop control panel, networking options, TCP/IP>properties, set to auto detect?
