WHy wont my computer show video's?

If i go to youtube or hulu i can watch videos but most streaming websites and sometimes just the title or pictures on a website wont show. instead its just blank were the video or picture should be and there's a box in the top left hand corner with either random shapes or a red x in it i have no i dea whats going on it's an annoying inconvenience.
