I have a problem running GTA IV on my PC.

Just got GTA IV for pc n i got a problem (Not A Hard Ware problem)?

• just for this once my problem dont have nothing to do with hardware or software. the game works fine it installed took awhile but got there :) i loaded the game up and to my shock the pc was running GTA IV i couldn't believe my eyes, heard a lot complaining about the PC format of GTA IV (Graphical problems), i managed to pass all that now i find out i gotta open an account with (Games for Windows) to enable the save progress feature, ok so i created my account well at lest tried put my email in new password you know doing everything it asks the process ends up stopping on the update window saying that i got a internet connection problem??????? hows is that when im always on the internet my service rarely goes off i am addicted to the net it works just fine why does this have to happen its stupid there's no point in me buying the game if im not allowed to save my progress :( if there is any hope for me, what control pad do i need??? got a ps2 controller adapter for PC but GTA IV doesn't recognize the pad at all theres no options to choose it, guess i need a propper control pad for this game??
