-
Recently my area was force to Drop to DSL & Sign up for U-VERSE didn't want to deal to other companies so I stuck with AT&T I have a Motorola Modem 2210-02-1ATT & A Cisco Linkys E1000 I have tried different methods such as Mac Clone Release IP Address etc.. nothing.. But I have discovered is that My Modem Internet IP Address is what I use is the permanent Internet IP Address & my Router doesn't assign its own IP Address so what I mean to say is My Modem IP Address is all I have and I don't know how to change or make my router IP Address work because my it only picks up for the modem non routers. PLEASE HELP I NEED TO CHANGE MY IP ADDRESS !! AND I HAVE A DYNAMIC NON STATIC AND ITS NOT CHANGE EVERYDAY AS AT&T THINKS

Answer:
OK I am not sure exactly what you mean here but I will try and explain how IP address are assigned. Your DSL modem is assigned an IP address from your provider via DHCP. You can request a static address but you will pay more for your service for that option. Your Router the cisco has a address of 192.168.1.1. That is the addressing assigned to it by Cisco. Your PC in this case a Mac gets an address from the Cisco Router. In your case it will start at 192.168.1.100 and typically go to 192.168.1.149 unless you tell it to give you more address. These are DHCP as well, but you can assign static ones. Just remember ever so often if you assign a lower static IP to a Mac/PC you might run in to a error saying 2 machines are using the same IP address. So my suggestion to you is set your Mac/PC static address in the 192.168.1.14x range. If you are using an application that needs to be assigned a specific port to a specific IP address inside your network (e.g. a 192.168.1.xxx) address you need to give you Mac its own static IP address. You can find out how to do that on the page in this link below. http://homepage.mac.com/car1son/static_port_fwd_staticip.html The page shows an IP address of 192.168.1.20 but that is B.S. you can not supply an address below 100 unless you change a lot of your default router settings. I do not suggest you do that. I hope this clears some things up for you. Feel free to add more info to your post or edit it for clarification if my answer is not very helpful.
