How long would it take and how much does it cost to build a website alone?

I have an idea to create a social network website as a business, but I'm still quite a novice in website programming. I'm quite confident with the growth of the business because of the concept. I'm planning to learn the programming from now on, but still worrying would it take too long or would it just cost too much to build it on my own. I'm thinking of one of my friend who is more familiar with IT than me.. but that would make us a co-founder right? and advice what should I do please?
