Why won't Yahoo messenger work on Windows Vista?

IE and vista's windows update does not recognize my connection but firefox and yahoo messenger work fine.?

  • IE does not work on my laptop and windows cannot update. However, firefox and yahoo messenger work fine. I have a vista hp laptop and have been trying to fix this problem for a year. I have tried everything on this site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956196 I have deleted every update ever downloaded ever. I have no firewall or any third party virus or other protection that could possibly interfere with my connection. I found at least 50 forums that had this same problem mentioned and the fix provided was one I have mentioned or there was no fix at all. If I allow firefox to update it stops working as well. Also I am unwilling to pay for xp or windows 7 and I do not know anyone who can install linux or similar os for me. I hate vista and will never by another windows product as long as I live but at the moment I'm stuck with half the programs on my computer not working though windows promises to send a report as soon as I connect to the internet which I am on right now. Can anyone help me. please also as a last ditch effort I tried a trial of norton and windoctor found nothing wrong.

look in task manager and see how many processes you have running there may be a rootkit interfering with the O/S , have you checked the firewall settings?

This can usually be removed by downloading malwarebytes antimalware (download it on another computer, so that there is no interference), and to install it and run it, you may have to rename the exe files to 'randomness.exe' or something else.

this COULD be a virus (most probably a DNS changer) that is making your system think it is downloading one thing, but in cant it is downloading another. Does Norton's update correctly?
