How to get website known on google?

  • I work for a small marketing company, and we are currently doing fine. However, we would like to increase my number of clients. I have been put to the task of online marketing. And frankly, many of my friends say the best free marketing source on the internet is google. Therefore my question is, How do I get my website on google, so that when someone types inmarketingng (my city, my company comes up, or even to narrow it down , marketing consultancy(my city). From reading on google, I understand that I would have to exchange links with other company websites and etc. But I don't really understand how to do this. Could someone please take the time, to provide a proper answer with a step by step guide showing me how to get my website on google, and on the first two pages, getting many visitors on our website. Or if anyone knows of a link to a step by step guide on how to do this. Greatly appreciate all help in advance.

    Created websites are automatically known on google, if you want it on the sidebar (highlighted) you should lookup google's official e-mail (probably gmail, but who knows) and tell them that you would like your website (put in the domain name you want to display) to be highlighted. http://www.google.com/addurl/ this is the link to add your url -to get the website know takes the legwork you described (link exchange, business cards, links in forums etc.) -link exchange is like a partnership, you find other businesses and they put a banner (link) on their site and you put one of theirs on yours -other ways to get your link out there is to add it to other bookmarking sites like digg, stumbler, etc -having a link to your website on emails, text and any other electronic signature helps as well, using the company logo as a clickable link (banner)will also get hits you will have a better chance at hitting the top of the google search if you have the www.yourbusiness.com, make sure to give a good description and lots of key words in your search hope this helps hope it helps
