What's upload speed?

Why has my internet speed not changed even though I've upgraded it?

  • Hey I just upgraded my internet connection to 10.0 mbps (I've tested with a few internet speed tests and it confirms that I'm at 10 mbps, which I think is quite a bit) however, I notice no difference in downloading. I'm aware that servers that I download from have an upload limit, so when I had a 2mbps connection and I downloaded something from mediafire, the speed was around 300kbps, and it STILL is at 300kbps even when i have a 10mbps connection. Even torrents haven't really changed. So whats the point of upgrading your internet connection when servers don't change thier upload speed? how can I take advantage of this new connection? thanks!

  • Answer:

yea the uploader is the problem. Just because you upgrade your speed, doesn't mean you will download faster because if the uploader has capped it at 300kb/s or whatever it is then you will only get that.

Have to reset the modem and router unplug both for 15 seconds or push in the reset button for 5 seconds.

check ur internet speed by googleing speedtest

The download speed is determined by the upload speed as well as your network, you might have a 10meg speed but they might be on a slower speed. And if your downloading from someone at home they might have a limited up link also. Cable modems might download at 10meg, but their upload is generally less than 1meg.
