Why does my internet cut out when the phone rings?

Internet cuts out when phone rings?

  • Whenever we receive a phone call and someone answers, our router disconnects the internet for around thirty seconds and then it will come back on, until the phone is hung up again in which it disconnects for another thirty seconds. We have three phone lines, with only a cordless phone attached to one of them, although we have DSL filters attached to them all it still interrupts. We're on wired connections (no wireless) and I'm not sure whether it's the frequency from the cordless phone or the filters aren't working. Although recently in the past few days for some reason it's gotten worse to the point where the internet is disconnecting at times even when the phone doesn't ring, and often when the phone rings yet no one answers it will interrupt. Can anyone help? please.

  • Answer:

Do you have a land line phone that is not a cordless ? First make sure not all your phones are cordless. One should not be a cordless. Also just call your server they might have to reconfigure your settings.

You either have something connected incorrectly to a filter or one of the filters is faulty. Disconnect all equipment AND filters except the router one and connect one phone to the same filter. Ring in from another phone and see if it disconnects. If it does change the filter on the router. Try again. Then connect one other filter with a phone and try again. Also check that you have a DSL filter on any satellite box connections. Work through all the outlets with ANYTHING connected.Connect one filter and phone at a time. Also if you use any socket doublers they must always be on the filtered side, I have often seen these fitted before the filter by mistake. You need filters for all faxes, answering machines, analogue modems or anything else phone related.
