How does the internet work?

How come my internet doesn't work?

• Well, last week it was working perfectly, when all of a sudden it stopped working, so i "repaired" my connection and it started to work for a while, then broke again.. When i tried to repair once more it didn't work, so i disabled it and re enabled it and it worked for a while again, then broke once more.. When I repeated that sequence, once more, it didn't work... Every time i find a different solution my internet works for a short while then breaks again, and that solution would not work a second time. I have used Anti virus, Spy wares, Ad Aware, Virus scanners, and emptied all the virus out of my computer that I could find, but my internet still refuses to work properly.. This problem is only on my computer, right now I am using my dad's computer which is connected to the router as well.. I tried unplugging my router for 30 seconds and replugging it.. It worked for a while, then again stopped working, and wouldnt work again.. Can anyone propose a method with which i can permanently fix my internet?
