    for the most part nowadays only if you're using dial up. places everywhere have Internet access where you can just plug- in and log-in. it doesn't beat dial-up if the internet is congested ~you just have to wait your turn to 'merge' like on the e-way. usually the dial-up is for your stationary computer and home phone line (who has that anymore -other than Me :) ) http://www.geocities.com/itscinnasti stay tuned considering it'll all change faster than it's been doing so far... there's also that tapping into LAN's

it is not necessary, in cities where service is available u can use wireless data cards or wireless modems, however in most places internet rides over phone line because the infrastructure is already there and a modem in your pc or laptop allows it to transfer data over a phone line, it the way things have evolved and it is economically viable for service providers.

Nope! I have DSL through at&t and do not have a phone! I am sure other companies offer an internet only deal too.
