Why is my downloading so slow?

Why is Rapidshare downloading so SLOW?

When I first started to use Rapidshare, downloading was at full speed, 55kb/s. But then until last month I noticed whenever I downloaded something from Rapidshare that my activity light wasn't flashing the whole time. Instead from flashing continuously until download is finished, it would flash for about 5 seconds, then stop for 5 seconds then start again, and would continue until download is done. Only 1/2 of activity light flashing means that modem isn't working full time which means my download speed dropped from 55kb/s to 24.8kb/s. What is this? Why isn't my modem working to its full potential? Also i don't need comments like "you have really slow internet" because guess what, I have the time to wait 30 minutes for something to download.

its a free download. signup to raphid share to download faster. anything can effect internet speed. do you have more than 1 pc? is your gaming console connected?
