What is Connection-Specific DNS Suffix?

My laptop doesn't have internet and it has no default gateway and no connection-specific DNS suffix?

  • Everything else is normal on my other laptop though.. How do I add the gateway and the DNS suffix thingy..

  • Answer:

You shouldn't need to specify the gateway etc. If your connection to the router is via an ethernet cable (not USB), open IE, select Tools - Internet Options - Connections - LAN Settings - and check that 'Automatically Detect Settings' is ticked.

making a connection to the router will handle this. you need to discover why you aren't connecting.

I don't know how intelligent you are, so no offence. If you are connecting any device modem/router, it should automatically pick the Ip address and connect internet ( Assuming no issues on ISP end). Please ensure local area connection shows connected not "Acquiring NW Ip or media disconnected. If not then check for "Obtain IP address automatically" in TCP/IP stack. ( find from Rightclick > local area connection) > TCP/IP > properties. If anyone of the above doesnt work then your ethernet adapter needs to be reinstalled or troubleshoot. Hope this helps.
