How can you write an essay based off of the theme of a poem?

• Anyone know the poem, "I was a skinny tomboy kid" By Alma Luz Villanueva? It's a great poem, with several meanings. Can anyone tell me the main theme of the poem? And one more question, based off of this poem, Where would you put the analysis in the essay? Would the Analysis be in the Thesis statement? Conclusion or through out the body Paragraphs?   The thesis statement would have to be the poem's theme, and in this one I think is the fear of growing up, fear that comes mostly from not getting the nurturing she needs in a poor family in a poor and violent environment and from a down-trodden mother who doesn't have the capacity and the environmental support to guide her child not to live in fear. So the girl's at the age to be a tomboy which is not just because she likes what boys do, but because she fears looking like a girl that could be attacked for looking weak and maybe raped.
