Study shows names really do make the person ('Girls shackled by ultra feminine names')?
-
I'm only 7 weeks pregnant but I already have a shortlist of baby names ready for my baby girl (I have a feeling its a girl). I was doing some research online about names and personalities.. I came across a study which found that girls with ultra feminine names like Isabella are less likely to study "brainy" subjects like math and science at a higher level than girls with unisex names like Alex. The study was done with 1000 pairs of sisters to minimize any parenting influences. This study confirmed what I had suspected all along.. Names influence your personality.. Society obviously has different expectations from an 'Isabella' and an 'Alex'. I love feminine names.. especially flower names like Rose and Daisy.. Names on my shortlist include 'Rose Petal' and 'Starlight Meadow' ;P I also love science!! My husband and I are both scientists (I'm a biochem major and he's a evolutionary biology professor). I want my daughter to have an interest in science. So I don't know what to do.. I really hate unisex names :| http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2007/apr/29/theobserversuknewspages.uknews Interestingly, Grace has a low femininity rating.. I've always thought the name Grace was very feminine.. its definitely not a unisex name.

Amy is a good name for a smart girl, and it's girly. I like the name Grace too. Your Rose Petal and Starlight Meadow are cool...!

well i dont think thats true at all my name is Nicola - a variant of Nicholas the boys name, and also a unisex name - i did pretty badly at school, my sister is called Sarah - more feminine and she did really well in school so yeah - not true! i read that article ages ago and i think its a pile of bunkum! (rubbish)

Other studies in the USA have had similar findings. Unisex names help girls in their careers.
