Why did destiny hope cyrus change her name to miley ray cyrus?

When she was younger she would smile a lot and she was given the nickname Miley and she took after her dad's name with the Ray part.

Destiny Hope sounds like the daughter of a bible thumping televangelist. Either that or a stripper. It's kind of trashy. Miley isn't much better, but I think it's preferable to Destiny Hope.

I think her father nicknamed her Smiley which eventually evolved into Miley. I guess she just changed her name to Miley and went with part of her dad's name.

Cuz she liked that name better, and it is a very cute name, i really like it too. :D.

I think it had always been her nickname and its what everyone knew her as professionally from Disney, so she changed it legally. Her dad/family (not sure) called her Smiley, then i guess it got shortened to miley.
