Do you like the name Shayne for a girl?

It sounds like a boys name. If its a girl name is it ok to use it for a boy?

  • My husbands family has this fairly new tradition of naming all the children with irish/gaelic names. In keeping with this tradition I came upon the name Aisling in book where it was used as a males name. My husband and I loved it but I just found out the name I planned to use for my baby if its a boy is actually a girls name. I'm so bummed out and I can't imagine using it now as a girls name. Is it okay to still use it for a boy? or will my child be looked at by every irish person as strange for having a girls name?

    Many boys names are used as girls names so why not the other way around? Try telling people who dont know the name if they think it sounds like a girl or boy. If you thought it was a boys name im sure other people will too. Most likely, they wont meet alot of Irish people who actually know anything about the names. :)

I wouldn't.....this name is gaining popularity. I know one little girl who has it as her first name and another who has it as a middle name.

Aisling sounds like a boys name to me... If you changed it a little to Aislynn then it sounds like a girls name. If you love the name then you should name you boy Aisling. I doubt you will mett alot of people who know the gender of the name. I think of a boy when I hear that name.

I think you could use it for a boy. It is a very unique name I've never heard before. Sounds unisex to me. :) I just found it on babynames.com & they say it is unisex with the little symbols in the corner link below:

personally, i hate it when people name their kids using a name meant for the opposite sex. though, if it's not a very common name and don't sound too girly then go for it.
