How can I prepare myself for track season?

How to prepare for a 5k Zombie run in Boston?

  • In mid-May? I'm a beginning freshman distance runner and I'm ashamed to say I'm one of the slowest people on the team (400m in 3:20). But I saw a commercial for a 5K Zombie run in Boston, MA and I think it would be really fun. But I'm concerned whether or not I can physically run it (in addition to running the 5k, you'd be outrunning people dressed as zombies and doing obstacles and stuff). I have track practice every day besides Sunday. While some days are workouts (including Fartleks and stuff) most are distance runs where I run personally anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5 miles. Then we do some ab-workouts. How can I prepare for the 5k? Will I be able to prepare adequately in time? I can run about 2 miles without walking (I hope I get better, however. It's only my 10th day of track since I joined this season and never did a sport before. I'm in average condition but I can run much farther-- note I didn't say faster-- than most people who don't run track). Sorry for the Wall of text. Thanks!

There is a video on their website: https://www.facebook.com/run.for.your.lives?sk=app_275766409148223 if you want to see what types of stuff they have planned. Looks VERY messy but fun. You can do it!
