Whats the difference between advertising, public relations and sales promotion?

What would be an example of each of these things for a business such as a daycare/preschool? How could I advertise, how would I use PR and sales promotion to my advantage?

I am going to give you examples of each - this should help explain a little bit: Advertising: using media such as magazines, tv, radio, newspaper, etc. Will literally contain an ad Sales Promotion: best example are coupons. This could be in the form of the newspaper or in a magazine or even radio but you will usually be offering some sort of "promotion" in order to boost your sales. This can also include things like point of sales, contests, etc. Public Relations: usually sent in the form of a press release and usually considered as "free advertising". Usually press releases will be sent to local media (eg. tv stations, newspapers, radio stations) in hopes that it will be printed/broadcasted.
