How do you get advertisers for a newspaper?

• i work for a newspaper... we have a circulation of 5000 per month, but we are not getting too many advertisers.... can you think of ways that can help us getting more advertisers? also we only charge £99 for the full page, yet little interest. Also i was wondering how do you get big advertisers...nhs, colleges etc... i know you have to go through a agency, but where do you find agency from?? i live in Birmingham... can't find anything online

  Hi there, I just recently worked on a magazine to redesign their products and services. Essentially you need to get into the mindset of the advertiser - whats going to push their button. These means finding the benefit to them. Its the psychology of buying/selling .. what makes anybody buy anything? because they think that it will fulfill a need / desire. You can't attract advertisers unless you get this element right. Secondly, once you have established the need/desire that it fulfills then how do wrap the "package" into a perceived value proposition. Giving bonuses to new advertisers, discounts for multiple edition bookings etc What gap does your publication fill? How does filling that gap benefit your potential customers? What will it give your potential customer that they don't already have? I found people where very interested in the demographics that your publication was targeting ... this means customers want to know how your publication is attracting readers that they are aiming to have buy their products and services.
