Is there any real "work at home" jobs out there?

Does anyone know of REAL work from home jobs? I am looking for some way to supplement my families income.?

  • I am looking for a way to supplement my families income a little bit without having to find daycare for our 2 children. I have been a stay at home mom for 3yrs and am the family babysitter when needed, but it by no means helps our financial situation. Please don't tell me to go out and find a real job, as i would prefer to not put my children in daycare due to my sons health issues. If you know of any jobs that are work from home please let me know! Thanks!

You could create a blog, adding new original content regularly, if you are lucky and develop a following of thousands a week, you might earn a little advertising money after several months of work. Many people venture into affiliate marketing, most fail, but if you are smart, determined and lucky you can make decent money. There are more straight forward ways to earn money online, have a look at the job lists on freelanc marketplace sites like freelancer.com and odesk.com you can earn about $5 for writing a 450 word article for a web site, while there is worldwide competition, a native English writer has a big advantage. There are also micro task sites that pay small change for a few minutes work, popular with 3rd world countries, some in the U.S. do them instead of crossword puzzles, the original was created by Amazon, the online store to 'automate' tasks a computer couldn't do, like pick the better of 2 pictures they named mturk.com after the 18th century Mechanical Turk chess playing machine that had a man hidden inside, shortTask and microworkers have similar micro tasks, some individual jobs are a bit shady, like signing up for product trials, doing surveys, but you get to choose which tasks to perform.

Most of the "work from home opportunities" are scams -- but you already know this. The best options are the self-employment kind that you can do from home based on your skills: in-home daycare (or pre-school), pet daycare (doggie-daycare), stuffing envelopes (if you can find an organization to hire you for this), etc. I've known some SAHM's who clean a few houses a week -- it's not working from home, but it lets them supplement income at hours they choose and they can still stay at home with their kids during the day. I've known several SAHM's who become consultants (i.e. Scentsy, Mary Kay, Avon, etc) -- there are a ton of companies. This works if you're outgoing, a good salesperson, and if you find something that you're passionate about. In addition, if you have any special skills/talents, you might be able to put them to use (i.e. piano lessons, dance lessons, tutoring, teaching a foreign language, yoga instructor, etc.). If you've got any previous education/work history -- some areas might allow you to re-enter the workplace by working from home (i.e. - teaching online classes, web design, medical coding -- you typically need several years of experience outside the home before you can start working from home for this type of work, etc.).
