Can Someone Find Your Exact Location From a Website?

How can I allow my customers to find the closest location by entering a postal code?

  • I want to add a feature to my site to allow someone to enter their postal code, and the closest location where they can find a sub-distributor is found. Are there any pre-made scripts, links, web pages, etc.. for this? I tried creating a custom Google Map with all the locations, but using this technique, the customer have to choose which location they want directions to. I would prefer if the closest location to them was automatically chosen. I would need for this to be a pre-made script or maybe a website that provides this service because I do not have the knowledge to program this myself.

I'm not sure of a pre-made script, you might be able to get a freelance coder to implement it with an couple of hours work, you can find them on elane, rentacoder, odesk, etc, here is a Google tutorial on just what you are looking for: http://code.google.com/apis/maps/articles/phpsqlsearch.html Here;s a bit of code to just find the closet one on your existing google map: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4057665/google-maps-api-v3-find-nearest-markers A search for: google map api closest location, should bring up more. It's possible that you might have to employ a 3rd party service for postal code to Longitude-Latatitude, I see Google have the capability in their own maps suystem, not sure if it's in the public API.

There are a lot of different companies that offer this type of program that you can integrate into your website. One product that I've used is BullsEye Locator. Here's their website http://bullseye.electricvine.com/ I'm sure if you do a google search for "website dealer locator software" you'll probably be able to find plenty of others. Another way is to visit other websites that have this feature and generally in some small print on the map or below it will say something like "powered by.....xxxxx" Then you can google that company and find out what they offer.
