How do I remove my ear piercing?

Is it safe to remove my ear piercing yet?

  • I got my left ear pierced four weeks ago and I wanted to replace it so I took out my piercing when I was in the shower this morning. I cleaned it with the ear solution they gave me and put it back again. The piercer told me it's okay to replace the piercing after four weeks but I've read a lot of people saying I should not do anything to it not before six weeks. It's a normal earlobe piercing and I think it's healed now, but not completely. Can I replace the earring now or should I wait for 2 more weeks? And also, is it possible for my ears to get infected even though it's already 4 weeks old? Thank you.

Yes, your ear can still get infected. You should wait at least 6-8 weeks before trying to change it, and make sure you replace it with a hypoallergenic stud, like surgical steel. Also, ditch the ear solution... the alcohol is too harsh! Try cleaning with a Q-tip dipped in a mixture of warm water and sea salt. You should be able to find some cheap at a grocery store. Good luck!

When I had my ear pierced I took mine out after 4 weeks and replaced it with a silver one and I had no trouble. I would think it's fine for you, just make sure you keep silver or gold earrings in all the time (except for when you clean them) for a few more weeks. Also at night you could still wear the earrings that you got them pierced with to prevent the holes getting too small.

From experience, your hole could get infected at anytime, it really depends on the earring! Don't use really cheapy ones, as long as they are sterling silver they should be fine! you can change your earring whenever, I've changed it before 4 weeks! Just remember to always have an earring in it!

It'd be better just to leave some earrings in for two more weeks. It's always possible for the ears to be infected, no matter how far along you are in the healing process. It's still possible to get infected even after the hole has completely healed. Better to be safe than sorry in my opinion and wait until it's healed.

You have an open wound. Of course infections are more prone. I would wait those two weeks before changing an earring. Make sure you have plenty of salt water to clean the pierced ear- as salt water heals wounds.

The people who pierced your ear know what their talking about listen to them not what everybody else says. I took mine out at five weeks and they are fine! Hope it helps
