Jaw pain from piercing. Is it ok?

What's happening to my navel piercing?? Is it infected?

  • Ok, I have a navel piercing. On July 17, it will be offiically 6 months I got this piercing. Throughout these months, I have been really careful with the piercing. Except for when I accidently hit it occassionally. Other than that, the piercing is totally fine but recently, the skin became really dry and sometimes flake off soo I decided to put vaseline on the dry parts of the piercing but not on the hole. For two days of doing this the piercing looked really really good almost to point of looking healed. A couple of weeks ago the piercing was bleeding a little bit but eventually stopped and I also had white pus coming out too but it stopped as well. Now my piercing has NO BLOOD, PUS OR REDNESS AT ALL but suddenly today I feel sharp pains on the piercing. It went from tolerable quick pains to longer intenser pains. I can't push the piercing up or down without feeling pain all of sudden. THIS NEVER HAPPENED UNTIL TODAY... what's going on??? It looks completely fine, no scratches, bumps, redness, pus, blood but i'm feeling this pain all of a sudden!!! And I can kind of see inside the hole when i move the barbell to one side and i DONT see anything wrong inside....Is it an INFECTION??????

  • Answer:

don't worry about it. I got mine pierced about 4 months ago and all of a sudden mine did that it only last about a week and then the pain stops. All it mean(I think) is that the piercing is healing and when it is trying to heal you are moving it(thats good though because that helps it not heal to the metal :). for me the pain seizes when I unscrew the ball and pull the ring out enough for me to see the top hole and then I put it back in. First the pain for me started on the two holes and worked its way into the middle in about three days. It is a sign that the hole is almost finished healing :). Don't be afraid to take it out a little and tap warm water on it :) it helps me.

It could be an infection or it could be dry, irritated skin. There's no surefire way to be certain over the Internet, so I would pay a visit to a doctor if I were you. A doctor will know what s/he is looking at and will be able to assist you better than a piercer will.

Maybe it's your body's way of telling you there's a big hunk of metal stuck in you that doesn't belong there!!

If you got the piercing done at a shop, I would go back there and talk to the piercer about it. No need to involve a doctor, it doesn't sound like an infection. Perhaps the barbell is just irritating the inside/surrounding area of the piercing. I would talk to the person who pierced you, they should be able to give you some advice. Good luck!
