Is it possible that my cartilage piercing is allergic to nickel but my lobe piercings (same ear) are not?
-
Okay, so I got my cartilage pierced about a week and a half ago and it started getting REALLY itchy and red a few days ago. I thought it was infected but after researching I realized that it probably is an allergic reaction since it's itchy but it doesn't hurt. The thing is, I've had 2 lobe piercings on the same ear for several years now and they've been totally fine (no allergies). Is it possible that my cartilage is allergic to nickel but my lobe is not? Or... do you think that there's something else wrong with my ear? And lastly, HOW DO I MAKE IT BETTER?! The itching is driving me crazy! Help please! Thanks!

Answer:
Change the ring to a metal of higher quality (i.e surgical steel or gold) It is possible that a fresh piercing in cartilage is easier irritated by nickel than old fully healed piercings are.

No, it's just itchy and red because it's a new piercing. If the cartilage was allergic the lobe would be too. But it could be an infection so you should clean the hole with rubbing alcohol.
It is possible but much of the time cartilage piercings become itchy and stay itchy because you've been thinking about it.
I have a triple cartilage piercing and I got them done about 2-3 months ago. Mine itch all the time but I asked my piercer why and he said it's because they are healing really well. Cartilage takes a YEAR to fully heal, so it'll itch now and thedn. (: x
well i dont think its possible since its in the same ear
Fresh piercings tend to be more sensitive than healed ones. It's not necessarily that one part of your ear has a different allergy than the other--it's just the fact that it's a fresh piercing and needs quality jewelry. It's quite likely that you're having an allergic reaction--which CAN lead to infection if you keep the crap jewelry in. I never buy any jewelry with nickel content--surgical steel [for any piercing] or acrylic [only for healed piercings] because I am VERY sensitive to nickel. And yes--the gold used in jewelry is an alloy--sometimes containing nickel-- gold that is of a low karat usually contains less pure gold.
