Is my tongue ring normal?

I've had my tongue pierced for 5 days and have a yellowish "fur like" ring around the piercing. Is it normal?

  • I've had it done for 5 days. It doesn't really hurt anymore. It just has a yellowish "fur like" ring around the top that doesn't come off when I brush or use mouth wash. Is this normal? ALSO, I tore the hole just a tiny bit from me trying to eat when I first got it, will that heal back?

  • Answer:

Be very, very careful in the first two weeks of having it pierced. Mine did the same thing for a few days, but eventually went away. The swelling can last anywhere from 1-3 weeks so be prepared for that. If it doesn't get better in a few day I would go back to your piecer and ask if it is healing properly.

Hey. I had my tongue pierced for many years until I recently took it out. I do not remember ever having a yellow ring or any other color ring around the piercing. You say your tongue does not hurt anymore but if you press on your tongue does it feel hard? and if you take out the tongue ring does your tongue all of a sudden feel normal again - no pressure, tightness etc? I was just curious because it could be that you are allergic to one of the metals in the tongue ring itself. I myself had to have a real gold plated ring just like with any of my other piercings during the healing process. If i do not have a ring in gold plated, my piercing would never heal and stay infected. The tear should heal over time. If you mess with the piercing, the piercing itself will stretch and require you to get a bigger gauge sized ring. leave it alone and it will eventually heal. The only other suggestion I would have to give is go back to where you got it pierced at and let them look at it. They are the professionals and deal with these type things everyday. They know what they are doing and can probably give you better information than any website you can find.

This does not seem right. Please contact your piercer. I think you have something going on with the piercing.

its infected, you'll have to go to the person that pierced it and ask for advice on what to do.

For being normal, most likely not. You should go see a doctor a soon as possible.
